Answer

1. Look for a provided permalink.

EBSCOhost databases have a Permalink feature. ProQuest databases have a permalink as part of auto-generated citations. In some databases, the web address in your browser bar will work as a permalink.

2. Test your permalink.

Copy and paste your permalink into an incognito/private window, in another browser altogether, or even better yet, from home (off campus).

3. If the link doesn't open, try adding the proxy server address to the web address.

To route requests through the proxy server, you need to add the following to the end of the link's stem:

lib-proxy.fullerton.edu

So that:

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0045653516304921

Becomes:

http://www.sciencedirect.com.lib-proxy.fullerton.edu/science/article/pii/S0045653516304921
