What do I do if an electronic resource isn't working?
Pollak Library subscribes to over 200 databases, and provides access to over 100,000 journals, with a wide range of different technical requirements.
If something isn't working, follow these steps:
(1) If you're off campus, make sure you're logged into the proxy server. You can tell if the URL/web address of the resource you're in includes the words lib-proxy.fullerton.edu, or if you clicked through from the library pages. Since many of you find resources through Google, you may not have signed in anywhere, so the resource doesn't know you're affiliated with CSU Fullerton.
(2) If possible, switch browsers. Some resources work best in newer browsers, some in old. Some work best in Internet Explorer, others in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. You'd be amazed at how often this solves your problem.
(3) If that doesn't work, try clearing your cookies and cache. (Usually this is under Internet Options, Tools, or Settings). This is especially important if you use Internet Explorer, for some reason.
(3) Next, try restarting your computer.
(4) If you have access to a different computer, try that. Again, some resources just work better on PCs or Macs.
(5) Contact the library! We get a lot of these questions, and may know exactly what it will take to fix it. Or, we'll contact the companies to fix things when they're broken. If you can tell us what the resource is, how you got to it, what you were trying to do in it, and what version of browser and computer you're using, we'll be able to troubleshoot more quickly.
