An empirical article is an article that appears in a scholarly publication and reports the results of original research. Original research refers to the gathering and analysis of either quantitative or qualitative data to answer a specific question.
Empirical articles are organized into sections that detail different aspects of the study. Often they will be noted with headings such as:
Abstract
Introduction
Method
Results
Discussion
References
